iPhone to iPhone 6: A Magical Phenomenon

On June 29th, 2007, the world witnessed the unveiling of a phenomenon called the iPhone. What started as a highly confidential Project Purple in the year 2004 later became to be known the iPhone. The handset created insane reactions from over the world when it was initially unveiled on January 7, 2007. On its release date, there were hundreds of customers lined up outside Apple stores in the United States. The craze among media about the iPhone up-scaled to such an extent that various sectors even dubbed it as the Jesus Phone. Subsequently, in the month of November that year, Apple released the iPhone in Germany, France, and the U.K.

Following the success of the iPhone, Apple released iPhone 3G on July 11, 2008, across 22 countries. The iPhone 3G ran the iOS 2.0 and was made available in two variants viz. 8 and 16 GB. After almost a year’s interval, on June 8th, 2009, Apple announced its next model: iPhone 3GS. Immediately after the announcement, many users were unhappy with the costing. The model was launched in June itself across the United States and other European countries. iPhone 3GS was the first of the iPhone series to have a Digital Compass as well, along with the GPS.

iPhone 4 was released on June 24, 2010. It came in 2 variants 16 and 32GB, while the 8 GB variant was launched on October 14, 2011. iPhone 4 was the first of the series to have a CDMA model, as well. The model was released in February 2011. iPhone 4 got reports from users about dropped/disconnected calls; this later came to be known as antennagate.

A press event was held on October 4, 2011, at the Cupertino Apple headquarters, with an agenda to disclose the details of the next iPhone model. Apparently, Apple sold more than 1 million models of its next venture, iPhone 4s, within 24 hours of its release.

By the year 2011, owing to the colossal success of iPhones, Apple Inc. comfortably dethroned long-time leader Nokia, as the world’s largest mobile handset vendor.

The iPhone 5, which was announced on September 12, 2012, had a larger screen compared to its predecessors. The model had a 4-inch screen and was powered with an SoC A6 processor. The iPhone 5 model saw two upgrades to its name viz. iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s. The 5c model is made of plastic and is available in the market in 5 colors: white, green, blue, yellow, and pink. The 5s model is available in 3 colors: gold, black and white.

The iPhone 6 is speculated to be released in the month of September 2014. Apple, however, hasn’t officially announced the release date yet. The model expected to be available in 4 variations: 16/32/64/128 GB. The much talked about iPhone 6 is rumored to have two models with 4.7 and 5.5-inch screens.
