7 Phases of the Lean Six Sigma Training Process


Six Sigma is a method that focuses on reducing process variation and enhancing process control. As an analytical tool, it improves the business processes‘ capability and helps boost profits, employee morale, and the quality of products or services. Six Sigma Training includes a wide range of things and concepts.

Training and certification are necessary for every professional to be included in Lean Six Sigma, where skills and knowledge are put forward to develop better products or services by using various techniques that will lead to successful results without any hassles.

Six Sigma training is carried out through different phases. The seven phases of the Lean 6 Sigma training process are as follows:


In this phase, the organization decides on Six Sigma training and identifies the employees who will undergo the training. 

The basic idea of training is to make people understand various methods which can be used to improve processes and products. In this stage, ideas are generated as to which employee will be chosen for the training.

It helps identify and select those who will undergo the training and achieve good results. 

After it is completed, a list is generated containing all the employees who will eventually undergo the Lean Six Sigma training process.


In this phase, an employee is selected as per their skills and knowledge. The person to be trained is chosen, and then an agreement is made with that individual or company. If there are any issues between both parties, they will be resolved, and if everything seems reasonable, then a contract will be made, after which Six Sigma training begins.

This phase can also include benchmarking exercises to focus on the areas which need attention while undergoing Lean Six Sigma training.


This phase includes creating schedules, agendas, marketing plans, etc., to make the Six Sigma training a full-fledged success. 

In this phase, all the requirements of Six Sigma training are planned. A schedule is created as to when it will start and end. It also incorporates contacting those involved to let them know about the activities they will have to perform during this training process. 

Different marketing strategies can also be included in this phase of the Six Sigma training process to help people know what they will gain from it and how it can help them become more efficient in their respective fields.

Lean Six Sigma training is conducted in this phase, and people are trained. 

The stage includes all the activities carried out during the Six Sigma training process. People who will be involved in this process will first undergo classroom lectures and classes on how they can contribute to it by thoroughly participating in all activities. 

Some essential parts of this curriculum are the master black belt training, green belt training, and yellow belt training. 

It also includes implementing different projects to test employees’ abilities trained under this methodology.


This stage is critical to ensure that all people involved in 6 Sigma training can carry it out properly. 

All employees undergoing Six Sigma training will be followed up by appraising their progress and checking to see if they are practicing what was taught.

It can also include checking the improvement in processes and products after training. If a particular person does not perform properly, then an action plan will be made to ensure that they become more efficient in the future.
