Prepare for F1 Student Visa Interview to Study in the USA

Candidates planning to study abroad have to deal with many concerns. Among such concern, F1 Student Visa is one. To study in the USA, it is necessary to get the F1 student visa. When you are done with the document processing stage, you have to be ready for the Visa officer. Generally, for a successful Visa, there are many combinations that need to be in order. The purpose of the interviewer is only to validate and check for your reasons to go the USA. They by no means will thrash your dreams to Study in the USA. Keeping all the above things in mind, here are a few tips and rules that you should remember for your interview process.

List of the Documents

During the interview, you will not be asked for your documents another than appointment letter. But, it is better to be prepared if in case the documents are required. Therefore, keeping the documents might come in handy for you if the interviewer wants to see them. Also, keep them filed, so that they can be accessed anytime you want.

You should also keep your original passport available and submit it whenever you are required. Below is the list of the documents that you need to keep with you during the time for interviews. It is divided into four sets.

First Set: Educational Documents

  • 10th and 12th standard mark sheets and certificates
  • IELTS/TOEFL scores
  • GMAT/GRE/SAT scorecard
  • Provisional or degree certificate for bachelor’s course completion certificate and consolidated mark sheet if required.

Second Set: Personal Information

  • MRV fee receipt
  • Passport (Previous ones as well as current one)
  • SEVIS fee receipt
  • DS 160 confirmation slip with barcode visible
  • Passport size photographs

Third Set: Financial Documents

  • Last three years savings bank account slip
  • Loan approval letter if you have applied for a loan
  • Past three years tax returns
  • Fixed deposit certificates for last three years
  • Property documents

Fourth Set: Work-Related Documents (If You Have Work Experience)

  • Joining letter
  • Relieving letter
  • Last six months’ salary slip
  • Interview day preparation

Points to Remember

You need to be well-prepared for this interview. So, there are a few things that you need to remember before giving the interview.

  • Prepare your file well.
  • The file should be cataloged neatly and marked in the order. This will make sure that the documents are easily accessible whenever required.
  • Make sure that you have gone through the list of universities you have applied to and the courses should be properly understood.
  • Make sure you are well aware of the course that you enrolled for and the kind of credit systems it has.
  • Along with this remember the tenure, faculty, and the highlights of the course.
  • Read about the state that you are visiting in and it’s nearby locations.
  • Go through the financial documents so that you understand how you are going to pay for your education in the states.

Along with this, also dress well for the interview day. Try to keep the dressing formal but do not overdo it. Keep the accessories minimum. For shirts, go for solid or light colors. If you are wearing the glasses in the passport than wear during the interview as well.

Do’s and Don’ts In The Interview

Do’s
When you are giving the interview, look at the interviewer. Making eye contact with the interviewer is the sign of confidence. You always speak in English during the time of an interview. Good communication is one of the primary requirements for studying in the USA.

Don’ts
Don’t speak in English with an accent, try to keep it as natural as possible. Don’t be nervous during the time of the interview. Maintain eye contact with the interviewer, but do not overdo it and stare at the interviewer. This can make the interviewer uncomfortable. Don’t offer your documents unless you are asked for it.
