Amazon India, one of India’s major e-commerce giant, has announced investments in six more specialized fulfilment centres in Coimbatore, Pune, Lucknow, Gurgaon, Mumbai and Bhopal and 20 additional delivery stations exclusively for large appliances and furniture. With this investment, Amazon India now has a specialized network of 15 Fulfilment Centres covering a total area of 1.3 million square feet, with 5 million cubic feet of storage space and 60 delivery stations, in order to cater exclusively to needs of the consumer.

Amazon claims customer demand for large appliances increases during the summer season. Products such as like refrigerators, air conditioners, air coolers, washing machines, etc. have had increased demands recently, prompting Amazon to cater to these growing customer demands by investing more fulfilment centres, along with expanding its current storage capacity. Major cities like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Ludhiana, and Ahmedabad have had their storage capacities upgraded for the current season.
Akhil Saxena, the vice-president for customer fulfilment, Amazon India, was quoted saying, “Our investments in this specialized network will allow us to come closer to customers and offer faster delivery of large appliances and furniture”. He claims that Amazon India has doubled their storage space, delivery station network and cities for delivery over the last year in order to better cater to the customer. Amazon is quite vocal about its expansion in India, planning to overtake the current major e-commerce player, Flipkart.
In the words of Suchit Subhas, Category Leader- Appliances, Amazon India, Amazon’s investment in, installation services, infrastructure and sound finance has led to major changes in the behavior of the consumer regarding online shopping for large appliances and furniture.
Amazon India aims to ensure faster delivery to customers through the expansion of this specialized fulfillment network. Currently, customers in 30 cities can avail the next day delivery services for these categories. Other than that, Amazon India enables installation services across 200 cities on appliances from brands such as LG, BPL, Whirlpool, Bosch, Haier to name a few. These aggressive policies are sure to expand their market this year, and in the years to come. Amazon has also increased its delivery destinations, now offering delivery services to more than 6,500 pin codes all over the country.
